Outlook Of The Development And Situation Of LED Lighting Power Supply(2)

March 4, 2011 Category :Light Sources 0

LED IV characteristics of the digital model can be expressed. VF=Vturn-on+RsIF+(Δ VF/ ΔT )(T – 2 5 ℃). VF = Vturn-on + RsIF + (Δ VF / ΔT) (T – 2 5 ℃) (1) which, Vturn-on is the LED threshold voltages, the slope of Rs expressed voltammograms T ambient temperature Δ VF / Δ T is the LED forward voltage temperature coefficient, typical for most LED in terms of – 2 V / ℃.

The CV curves from the LED and the digital model to see, LED in the forward after a small change in forward voltage will cause large changes in LED current and the ambient temperature, LED aging time and other factors also affect the LED will change the electrical performance. The LED light output with the LED current is directly related, so the LED driver circuit in the input voltage and environmental temperature on the case of a change is best able to control the LED current. 否则,Otherwise, LED light output with the input voltage and temperature changes and other factors, and, if the LED current control, LED current long-term work will affect a large LED reliability and life, and may fail.

1, the usage status of LED drive power

Standard Electric is undergoing a revolution. For the protection of energy and address global warming considerations, the United States and other countries, some states began to prohibit the use of inefficient incandescent bulbs. Have a variety of new technologies are being used to replace incandescent bulbs, including compact vacuum fluorescent (CFL) is the main alternative. Although this CFL incandescent lamp consumes only 20%, but they contain toxic substances mercury. In contrast, LED lamps can provide more efficient and more environmentally friendly solution.

The first commercial application of LED in the seventies of last century, but its light output is very low, the application was limited to light and calculator displays and other fields. Now, can produce high-power white light LED can be improved continuously in terms of efficiency, prices are declining, it has become the mainstream lighting applications to be considered one of the options. Expected that with LED technology, the luminous efficiency by 2012 will reach 150 lumens / watt, 1000 lumens will be less than $ 5 cost (source: OIDA), when the LED is expected to become a major source of indoor lighting.

LED lighting In Middle East

A number of high profile security applications in the Middle East, a region renowned for adopting cutting edge technology, have deployed the latest LED lighting technology from Raytec to improve the performance of their CCTV systems. A number of high profile security applications in the Middle East, a region renowned for adopting cutting edge technology, have deployed the latest LED lighting technology from Raytec to improve the performance of their CCTV systems. Raytec, the global leader in the design and manufacture of LED lighting systems for both CCTV, and general lighting applications, confirmed a major distribution agreement with Harco at the beginning of 2010. Since then, Harco Group, video solutions specialists, have deployed Raytec illuminators at a number of high security sites including government and police facilities, industrial buildings, shopping centres as well as private security buildings and villas.

The adoption of LED lighting technology has followed successful trials by Harco showing the importance of good illumination and the advantages of using Raytec LED technology.

Raytec’s high performance, low energy LED illuminators deliver an operational life in excess of 10 years, low running costs and zero-maintenance. Not only to Raytec LED illuminators deliver significant energy and cost saving benefits compared to traditional lighting solutions, but they also allow surveillance systems to deliver high quality images during the hours of darkness. Raytec illuminators also feature the unique Adaptive Illumination which allows the angle of illumination to be tailored on site to match specific surveillance requirements, anywhere from 10-180°.

“The key issues that are encountered at sites in the Middle East are high temperature variations, dust, sand blasting, and the challenge to deliver excellent night time images in such harsh conditions”, says Steven Carrell, Sales Executive at Raytec.

“The advanced ‘Cool Running™ thermal management system’ integrated into all Raytec products, draws heat away from the LEDs and shields them from abnormal stress. As a result of our engineering know-how,

Raytec LED illuminators are currently delivering outstanding performance in a wide range of challenging locations around the world from the Arctic Circle to the Tropics.”

“We have managed to secure some of the most prestigious projects in the region, with Raytec illuminators” confirms Roger Ghostine, Regional Business Development Director, MENA at Harco Group.

“With a demanding CCTV market like the Middle-East, it is important for us to deliver the latest innovations. With both Infra-Red and White-Light ranges, Raytec is allowing us to give our customers the best solution for any application.”

Are LED Christmas Lights Really Greener?

December 20, 2010 Category :Commercial Lighting| Light Sources 0

More and more energy conscious people are using light emitting diodes (LED’s) to decorate their houses and Christmas trees. Environmentalists consider LED’s a better option than traditional Christmas lighting due to their low energy usage and long life. But a recent study indicates that LED lights may not make a Christmas tree “green.”

LED’s use 90% less energy, last 40 times as long, and produce 1/25th of the heat compared to conventional incandescent lighting. They are more expensive – decorating your tree could cost an additional $40 – so it would take a few years to see a savings. But, because they burn much cooler, using LED’s also reduce the chance of a tragic holiday fire. So with all these benefits, are they really greener?

A new study from the University of California’s Davis and Irvine campuses says maybe not. Researchers simulated landfill conditions that LED’s would face by pulverizing them and adding acid. They then measured the amount of metals that leached out. They tested various colors of 5 mm pin-type LED’s. The red LED failed federal standards by leaching an unacceptable level of lead. The other LED’s tested released high levels of copper, lead, nickel, or silver according to California standards, which are more rigorous than federal standards. Heavy metals gallium and indium were also detected. The researchers concluded that LED’s should be classified as hazardous waste. This points to the dilemma often faced by environmentally conscious consumers. Trade-offs such as between energy efficiency and hazardous waste (as in the case of LED’s) need to be considered when making choices. And studies such as the one on LED’s are vital to making good choices. LED’s are certainly the best option to reduce a household’s electric bill and carbon footprint. But when the LED’s useful life is over, simply tossing them in the trash would be irresponsible.

Both manufacturers and consumers need to consider the impacts of a product’s end-of-life. Companies should either eliminate toxic components from their products or provide recycling options. And consumers need to educate themselves on the ramifications of the products they buy, and be willing to adjust their habits as they learn more.
