Decorate a Living Room with Lamps

June 30, 2011 Category :Lighting Wiki 0

We often dream about having a big house. But actually, many of us can only afford to buy a small house. In spite of its house, it is our beloved house and we really want it to be as beautiful and comfortable as possible. So we try every effort to design our own house and add beauty to it.

The key to a functional and comfortable living room rests in the choice of illumination in the room. In the 1980s and 1990s, it was common to see lamps that were designed to be purchased as a three part set. If you have some hard-wired lighting but feel like table lamps and floor lamps would add a bit of subtle ambiance to the room, then check out some practical ideas. Table lamps and floor lamps offer something that existing light sources don’t have, versatility. You can divulge in lamp variations and still keep harmony and unity in your living room. You can place a floor lamp or a table lamp in a living room and dramatically improve the mood and tone of the room. Practice these simple suggestions for a living room that has harmonizing illumination. In addition, stacking a table lamp will add more height to the table and increase the illuminating effects in the room.

Each of the light fixtures was made out of exactly the same materials, and was designed in the exact same way. The only difference was the height of the lamp itself. This overly coordinating lamp trend has come and gone, and a newer more varied and flexible decorative motif has emerged. For example, a brushed nickel floor lamp will complement a solid black table lamp if you choose contemporary lampshades for each. The lamp variations will add a sense of dynamic appeal to your living space. They can be plain and simple or ornately designed depending on your decorative needs. In addition, the wattage and type of light bulb that you choose will have a great impact on the illumination in the living room. The key to a functional and comfortable living room rests in the choice of illumination for the room.

Table lamps don’t have to rest directly on a table to serve the purpose they were designed for. Lampshades designs are an important design element in modern living rooms because they add color, texture, and pattern to the room. You can even use a stacked table lamp in place of a floor lamp if the living area is better suited for a tall table lamp. Illumination in a living room is not just about the lamp itself. It is also about the lampshade and bulb that you are using with the lamp. Lamp variations, dimensional attributes, and lampshade design can all have a positive influence on the mood and feel in the room. You can stack books, magazines, or simple flat accessories on a table, and then place the table lamp on top of those items. This will actually add a greater sense of dimension to the table space itself.

Don’t be frustrated about the size of your house. You can still own a beautiful, impressive, and comfortable house with proper lamps for living room. Good luck and enjoy your small but beautiful house!

How to Create an LED Sign

June 28, 2011 Category :Lighting Wiki 0

Do you want to create an LED sign by yourself? It is very interesting and money-saving. Come on, just have a try. Are you ready? Here are some instructions which may offer you some help.

Install the resistors on the back of the circuit board. Outside of being used in jumbo televisions, remote controls, flashlights and digital clocks, you can purchase LED lights in bulk to create a sign that is customized and gift-able. Use the smaller circuit board if you will be doing slim characters such as the number “1″ or letter “I.” Install the resistors according to the directions or by soldering them into place so they do not move or wiggle. LED signs are affordable to make and can be a worthwhile project for someone interested in electronics. Mark with a black pen where you want to position your LED lights to spell out your desired word or display a picture.

Crop the leads of the resistors using a strong pair of pliers. LED stands for Light Emitting Diode, and most modern-day electronics depend upon LED technology to function. Do this only after all resistors are soldered in, and before any LEDs are installed. This makes them much more durable and provides them with a longer life expectancy.

Install the LED lights in your desired position. A chamfer on the LED will show you which way they should be installed. Your board size should be able to hold 3 millimeters to 12 millimeter LEDs. LED lights that are used to make a sign are not lit by filaments like a standard light bulb, and are covered in plastic instead of glass. Using an inexpensive LED tester will help you ensure your LED lights are working and are compatible with your board. LEDs are installed with a pin fastener that usually comes with the lights themselves.

There is no doubt that it is not an easy job to create an LED sign, especially an LED sign of high quality. Nevertheless, practice makes perfect. Don’t be frustrated and just have fun!

How to Make an LED Pen

June 22, 2011 Category :Lighting Wiki 0

Have you ever had any experience of making an LED pen by yourself? If you know something about making an LED pen, you need not ask someone else for help and thus it is money-saving. Come on, just have a try. Are you ready? Here are some instructions which may offer you some help.

Remove the cap from your flat highlighter pen. Light emitting diodes (LEDs) are wonders of modern science, creating an impressive amount of light with a relatively small amount of electricity. Use a pair of needle-nose pliers to remove the end cap and ink rolls. There should be a larger ink roll inside the main pen body and another smaller roll extending from the pen tip. 10W LED can last for years without replacement, making them an increasing popular alternative to more temporary light sources.

Place your LED along the edge of your coin battery so that the terminals straddle either side of the battery. When pressed against the battery, the LED should light up. LED pens, featuring a bright LED in place of the ink tip, are useful due to their portability and small size, making them the darlings of electricians and automobile mechanics. If it does not, rotate the battery 180 degrees.

Drop the glowing LED into the end of your highlighter pen. Wrap a small piece of electrical tape around the LED terminals and coin battery. Remove the end cap and separate the battery from the LED when you are not using your new pen. The flat sides of the pen allow the wide coin battery to slide in.

The LED will protrude from the tip of the pen, offering its bright glow in the direction of your choosing. Shake your highlighter. If the LED and battery bundle moves around inside your pen, shove a few sheets of tissue into the end to hold everything in place. Use a more powerful coin battery to make your LED grow even brighter. Place the end cap on your highlighter when your pen is not in use.

There is no doubt that it is not an easy job to make an LED pen, especially an LED pen of high quality. Nevertheless, practice makes perfect. Don’t be frustrated and just have fun!

Types of Automotive Bulbs

June 20, 2011 Category :Lighting Wiki 0

Automotive bulb? What is that? What is the function, purpose, type, size, feature of an automotive LED light? Today I’ll introduce to you some basic information about automotive bulb.

There are four main types of automotive bulbs that are used in an automobile. Depending on your vehicle, headlights can be a sealed beam or a bulb type. There are standard bulbs that are most often used. Cool blue and blue vision versions produce a whiter light than a standard bulb. Both fog lights that mount on top of a truck as an aftermarket item and the standard type on the bottom of a car operate on halogen bulbs.

These include headlights, fog lights, mini bulbs and decorative lighting. In each type, there are variations, such as color, size and brightness, that are determined by the design of the bulbs and the intended purpose. The sealed beam requires you to buy a new entire headlight for replacement, which includes the bulb outside as well as the glass and metal casing. Mini bulbs are shorter in length than other bulbs and are generally not used as often as other bulbs. This type of bulbs has uses for turn signals, cornering lights and running lights.

The bulb type has six subcategories of bulbs within it. Taillights and stoplights use mini bulbs to operate. Sequenced lights that blink from one end to the other and then become solid or remain in a sequence are examples of strobe bulbs and are in wide use on side mirrors for blinkers and for additional brake lights. Running boards and step rails use this type of lighting that comes on when the vehicle doors open to ensure safe footing when getting in or out of a vehicle. Undercarriage lights are available in many colors to create colored light underneath a vehicle.

There are also xenon bulbs that produce 30 percent brighter light, and the xenon ultra produces 50 percent brighter light than standard bulbs. Argon and krypton make up a long life bulb, which should last 50 percent longer than a standard bulb. There is a large variety of applications for specialty or decorative bulbs on an automobile to perform various functions. Neon and LED lights are useful on side view mirrors as additional blinkers and in the rear of vehicles as additional stop indicators or brake lights.

To know something about automotive bulb can give us a general picture of it and can, to some degree, help us better use automotive bulb if necessary.

Disassemble LED Flashlights

June 16, 2011 Category :Lighting Wiki 0

As we all know, LED lighting is used in different fields. Today, we will explore how to disassemble LED flashlights together.

Put the newspaper down on a work surface. An LED flashlight is different because it uses an LED and not an incandescent bulb to supply the light. Remove the battery compartment cap from the LED flashlight. Remove the batteries from the battery compartment and put them and the battery compartment cap aside. Electronic circuits inside the LED flashlight help regulate the power to the LED so that the current does not cause an overload.

Hold the back end of the LED flashlight with one hand. Grab the front end of the LED flashlight with the needle-nose pliers. Disassembling an LED flashlight so that the parts can be used in something like a science project requires the use of a soldering iron to separate the LED from the circuitry. Twist the needle-nose pliers until there is a crack in the seam between the front and back parts of the LED flashlight. Put the needle-nose pliers down. Grab the front end of the LED flashlight with the free hand and twist the front until it separates from the back. It should only be done by someone with a steady hand who feels comfortable using a soldering iron.

Pull the LED assembly carefully from out of the front half of the LED flashlight. Put the LED assembly down on the newspaper. Unscrew the reflector from the front half of the LED flashlight. Remove the reflector and put it down on the newspaper. Put the back half of the LED flashlight down on the newspaper. Remove the reflector ring surrounding the LED bulb with the tweezers and put it down on the newspaper.

Hold down the LED assembly with one hand while gripping the sides of the LED bulb with the tweezers. Remove the soldering iron as soon as the solder on the contact starts to bubble. Pull the LED bulb from off the LED assembly using the tweezers. Put the LED bulb down on the newspaper.

Got it? Hope that you can really learn something about how to disassemble LED flashlights from this article. Enjoy yourself!

LED Lights Vs. Fluorescent Tube Lighting

June 14, 2011 Category :Lighting Wiki 0

LED light or Fluorescent tube light? You may be troubled by the question which one is more suitable to you. Today, I will make a comparison between LED tube light and Fluorescent tube light. Hope that this will give you some inspiration.

Light emitting diode (LED) and fluorescent light bulbs are considered energy-efficient lighting. A typical LED only draws between 2 to 10 watts of power to produce light. A 6- to 7-watt LED produces about the same level of light output as a 100-watt incandescent bulb. A 22-watt fluorescent lamp produces the same levels of light output as a 100-watt incandescent.

Perhaps the only obstacle in the way of LED’s widespread use is production costs. Both produce generous amounts of light for the wattage of power they require to operate. Each type of light bulb comes with certain advantages and disadvantages. It costs more to produce LEDs than it does to produce most other types of light bulbs, including fluorescent bulbs. Although they do not demand the same production costs as LEDs, fluorescent bulbs are still more expensive to produce than incandescent.

Because of current technological limitations, the size of an individual LED is rather small. Both types of light bulbs have a high initial cost, but this is offset by the amount of electricity they save the consumer in the long run. They are often clustered together for many applications. The life of a fluorescent bulb can be significantly shortened if it is continually turned on and off.

A typical fluorescent light bulb can last around 10 times as long as a typical incandescent bulb. LEDs are some of the longest-lasting light bulbs on the market. LEDs are less prone to damage by being dropped or jarred because they have no filament. They are capable of lasting for up to 10 times as long as fluorescent light bulbs.

Unlike almost every light bulb on the market, LEDs contain no traces of mercury, a toxic element. Fluorescents, on the other hand, depend on their mercury content to function properly. One of the largest benefits to LED lighting is that they run cool; very little energy is given off by LEDs in the form of heat. A fluorescent light bulb can contain around 5 mg of mercury.

In brief, there are some similarities and differences between LED light and Fluorescent tube light. Think twice before you make the conclusion. Good luck!

Instructions about Installing LED Rope Lighting

June 10, 2011 Category :Lighting Wiki 0

Have you ever had any experience of installing LED rope lighting by yourself? If you know something about installing LED rope lighting, you need not ask someone else for help and thus it is money-saving. Come on, just have a try. Are you ready? Here are some instructions which may offer you some help.

Measure the space before purchasing your LED rope lighting and get a rope that will span the breadth of the space. LED rope lighting can add ambiance to any household space. This home-based lighting solution has become increasingly popular because it is thin and easy to place behind artwork or other focal points for creative backlighting. It is easier to get one long rope for the entire space than to string together several smaller ropes.

Make sure the clips are large enough to accommodate the diameter of your LED rope light before nailing them in; the rope’s thickness depends on the brand and model. LED rope lighting uses less energy than traditional incandescent light bulbs. LED lights are even more energy efficient than that of competing “green” compact fluorescent lights, consuming “half the electricity” and lasting “about ten times as long” according to Michael Bloch’s Green Living Tips article “LED: Lighting the Way.”

Nail plastic cable clips half-way into to the installation area at regular intervals. You want to leave a little space to slide in the LED light rope before nailing in the clip all the way — unless, of course, you purchase clips that still have space for the rope even after they are fully nailed in. If you want the rope to hang a bit, then leave a lot of space between each clip; if you want the LED rope lighting to be pulled tight, place the clips about 8 inches apart. Luckily for savvy consumers, installing LED lights is very easy with just some basic tools and a little bit of knowhow.

Finish nailing in the clips, being carefully not to accidentally hit the LED light rope with your hammer. Hang the rope from the clips. Plug in your LED light rope to a standard electrical outlet. Some light ropes have “on” and “off” switches, others will simply turn on when they are plugged in. Use electrical tape to cover parts of the LED rope light that you do not want illuminated. This step is especially useful if you’re snaking the rope up a wall to go behind a picture frame or piece of artwork; covering the exposed rope will allow for exclusive backlighting. To blend with the wall, you may also use textured tape and paint the tape after has been stuck to the rope.

Got it? Hope that you can really learn something about installing LED rope lighting from this article. Enjoy yourself!

How to Hang Deck Lights

June 8, 2011 Category :Lighting Wiki 0

Have you ever had any experience of hanging deck lights by yourself?  If you know something about hanging deck lights, you need not ask someone else for help and thus it is money-saving. Come on, just have a try. Are you ready? Here are some instructions which may offer you some help.

Select the type of string lights to be hung on the deck. Choose from simple designs or themes that incorporate holidays or cultures. A variety of outdoor lighting is available, including string lights. String lights are individual lights spaced evenly along a power cord.

Choose a location for hanging the string lights. Determine if the lights can be strung from an opened umbrella or from the deck railing, for example. A deck is a great place to relax on a summer afternoon and also provides an outdoor area for entertaining guests.

Attach the string lights to the under side of an open market umbrella. Wrap the lights around the umbrellas supports, or use zip ties to secure them in place. Clip off excess plastic from the zip ties with scissors. When the sun goes down, outdoor lighting often is used to extend the use of the deck. The lights often take the form of paper globes, peppers, or other themes that can add both light and interest to a deck.

Hang the string lights by wrapping them along the deck railing. Wrap the string lights around the top rail of the deck, or weave them in and out of the spindles that support the top rail. Connect an extension cord to the string lights and then to an electric outlet near the deck. Run the extension cord between the string lights and the outlet, placing it so that it will not interfere with traffic on the deck.

There is no doubt that it is not an easy job to hang deck lights approximately. Nevertheless, practice makes perfect. Don’t be frustrated and just have fun!

How to Design Can Lights

June 4, 2011 Category :Lighting Wiki 0

Can light? What is that? Actually, can light is a kind of recessed lighting. Can lights are installed above the ceiling level. Can lights can be set up with one of two purposes in mind — to light an entire room or to accent a certain area of a room. Here are some tips for designing can lignts.

First, you should walk through the room and locate all the areas where certain tasks take place, such as counters and tables in the kitchen, mirrors in the bathroom and clothes dressers in the bedroom. These locations are where you are going to want brighter lighting.

Consider the room you are installing the can lights in. Certain rooms, such as the bathroom or kitchen, need brighter lighting. Bedrooms can get by with dimmer lighting, and lamps are normally used in living rooms to supplement can lighting.

Light up certain objects, such as pictures, a fireplace or bookshelf, by placing can lights 12 inches in front of the object. If the object you are showcasing is large, place two to three can lights, equally spaced, in front of it and aim each can light toward the object so it is lit from many angles.

Purchase a can light from your local home supply store. Install it in the room you are considering placing it and turn it on. Notice how much light the can light gives off and how much surface area the light covers. Normally, 4-inch lights should be placed 4 feet apart in the ceiling, 5-inch lights 5 feet and so on. However, the height of your ceiling and shape of your room needs to be taken into account. Taller ceilings and rooms with many corners will need more lighting.

Connect the can lights to a dimmer switch. This allows you to increase the lighting when you are in the room performing a task or decrease the lighting when the room is not in use but you are going in and out of it.

Got it? It is not that difficult, right? Just follow the instructions and develop your own style. Good luck!

How to Choose Bedroom Lamps

May 25, 2011 Category :Lighting Wiki 0

In my eyes, a bedroom is not just a place for merely sleeping. It is, instead, a place for physical and mental relaxation. Whether it is comfortable or not, it is closely related to its decoration. Among the relative elements, bedroom lamps are the one we should highly emphasize. Click here to know more about China Products.

We often underestimate the lighting needs in their bedrooms. Many people don’t think further than adding an overhead light fixture and a reading lamp by the side of the bed. However, lamps in a bedroom can help create a romantic mood, provide safety and security, and make the room more functional. There is no exact formula for choosing bedroom lights; function, style, budget and personal preference all play a part in finding the lamps that work best for you.

First, just sit in your bedroom with all the existing lights on and relax yourself. Look for poorly illuminated spots that you wish to brighten up. You should plan to buy tall floor lamps capable of holding high-wattage bulbs if you have large spaces that need lighting. Buy smaller lamps for task lighting, such as bedside reading tables or desks. Look for places where you might use small uplights for soft, ambient lighting.

Second, think about the functions that lamps will offer to you in your bedroom. For instance, a light that responds to sound or touch may be perfect in a child’s room, but could prove annoying in an adult bedroom. Turn on your existing bedside light and lie in bed. If you wish the lamp were higher or brighter, you’ve gained important information regarding what to look for when purchasing a new lamp.

Then, coordinate the style and color of the lamps with the general decor of your room. A Tiffany-style lamp would look out of place in a strictly contemporary bedroom. However, if you prefer a more eclectic style there is no reason not to choose a unique or unusual lamp that makes a statement, as long as it is functional for your bedroom.

It is significant to choose lamps which suit your bedroom best. It will make your bedroom more beautiful and comfortable. You can relax yourself more when in the bedroom.
