Part of the LED Industry may be moved to Brazil after the Japanese Earthquake

April 12, 2011 Category :Commercial Lighting| News 0

The impact of the earthquake is more than expected. In Japan’s domestic auto industry, the engine output on March 25, 2010 appears to have cut production by 45 million units. 75 million are from the global automotive production terms. This number is not large——only two weeks of production. But its effect on the Japanese domestic semiconductor industry may cause the decrease in total production in 2011 of around 20%. Considering the impact on the future, it will be extended, to some extent, and there are still too many uncertainties. In this case, the industry will develop semiconductor industry and various recovery strategies in future. As one member of them, I would like to suggest that some of the Japanese semiconductor industries be moved to Brazil.

Brazil will become the electronic manufacturing base in South America. In the world to the other candidates, why select Brazil it? This is because Brazil has become a production base in South America, the potential of e, if they can have a strong technical strength and build a complementary relationship between Japan, as well as possible for Japanese semiconductor company into a growth path again.

As we all know, Brazil has as many as 100 million 90 million population, and has rich natural resources. Gross domestic product (GDP) is now over with the BRIC countries (BRICs) of India, inflation is expected in the future the same time, to achieve stable economic growth (2009 has been out of the world financial crisis.) By increasing domestic purchasing power, its economic structure is moving from export-dependent structural transformation led to domestic demand. The reason is that the Government plans to implement the eradication of poverty and poverty reduction while increasing the number of the middle class, the mass consumer market (VolumeZone) increasingly active young consumer group. At present, so that Brazil is undergoing tremendous changes. In recent years, the new middle class was born (known as “ClassC”) number nearly 1 million, has become more than half of the total population of a major consumer level.

Japanese Earthquake Affects the Global Supply Chain of LED Industry

March 23, 2011 Category :News 0

Among the global LED industry, Asian production is the center of the LED industry. According to LED inner statistics, in 2010 Japan ranked top 10 among the global LED region, and Japan’s output ranked first in the world market, sharing up to 29% in the world.

Japan’s development of LED industry has a long history, since the development of Shuji Nakamura after the blue LED, making the LED industry booming in Japan. Especially in Japan’s LED industry supply chain integrity, in addition to several manufacturers producing LED’s, the upper and lower share of global supply chain of materials which also play an important role, such as the fluorescent powder, packaged silica gel, sapphire crystal rod industry. Settlements in the LED industry, distribution, LED manufacturers are mainly located in settlements in the Kansai region, and some material manufacturers’ factory is located in the Kanto area.

The earthquake in Japan’s Miyagi impact for the LED industry, according to LEDinside understands the impact of the overall industry is not great. And some companies in the Kanto region, and its plant and equipment are mostly safe. Fukushima nuclear power plant but has since ceased operation, coupled with traffic disruption caused by the tsunami in some areas, resulting in supply chain among some of the tight supply of components and materials phenomena.

Japan’s leading LED maker, Nichia of (Anan City, Tokushima), Toyoda Gosei (Nagoya), are located in the Kansai area, so this earthquake for the two vendors did not cause much impact. The Showa Denko, as the company is located in Chiba Prefecture is part of the production line, tight conditions in the power, how much the situation will affect their output. The other, a packaging maker, Citizen, as part of the company’s production line in Fukushima Prefecture, it is necessary to further understanding of the affected state.

Sapphire parts, with the major manufacturers as Kyocera and wood, the two companies accounted for about 25% market share worldwide. But the Japanese companies supply the major suppliers sapphire substrate of LED manufacturers in Japan use, export share is not high. The supply is limited, the LED will affect manufacturers in Japan to seek out Japan’s foreign sapphire is still cause for concern. As regards the use of four-GaAs substrate, the main supplier provided by Sumitomo Electric, there are no immediate reports of tight supply situation there.
